Config repository

Anyone remember the old config repository for RTCW where you could upload your config as well as a screenshot of what it looks like?  I’ll try and get one up here this weekend.

Peace out

I currently use Sennheiser PC-155 headphones which are great but I wanted to upgrade to better sound for gaming and music. I wanted them more for gaming than music so they had to be highly rated when used for determining players position in game. First I hit up gotfrag.com to see what a lot of people are currently using and any feedback I could find. I was able to narrow down my choices to either the Sennheiser HD-555 Audiophile Headphones used with a Zahlman clip on mic or the Steelsound 5H USB V2 By Steel Series.

I decided after reading as much as I could to go with the Sennheiser’s - I have owned several pairs and have never been disappointed. I have had them two weeks and I am still breaking them in. So far the pros are they are very comfortable for wearing them for long periods of a time and they sound great - much better than the PC-155. I can definitely hear opposing players better with the 555’s. Music is also much better all around - more lively, more bass, more everything - I had to turn down my volume levels from what I used on my PC-155.

As for the Zahlman mic it also works great. It has several clips for attaching its cord to the headphones cord. The only thing I miss from the 555 is the volume/mute control on the cord - old habits are hard to break.

I also have a Func pad on the way - can’t wait for that to get here.

What is Competitive Gaming?

Many people simply do not know what the competitive gaming experience is all about.

The one sentence answer I can think of is to think of competitive gaming as requiring the same dedication as being on a college sports team.

You actually spend a lot more time practicing than most high school sports players. Exactly what do competitive teams do?

- You practice 3 hours a night monday thru friday. Some practice less, some practice more - it depends on your teams level - is it an AA team, AAA team etc.
- At the beginning of the week you will review that week’s map(s) and walk thru / devise your offenses and defenses
- You will review demos of your opponent playing on the upcoming map
- You will have a few scrimmages a night
- You will have a strat caller who calls the plays - of course every player is on vent (voice)
- You will revise your strats and continue to practice. You will review demos of your scrimmages much like pro football teams review video tapes of their games.
- You want to win a bit so your matches broadcast by internet E-Sports broadcasters
_ You want to be successful so you can get some sponsors. Sponsors pay for servers, hardware, flights and hotels to tournaments as well as tourney fees, and if your lucky pay salaries. (only the top teams get sponsors)

First off I should say I really didn’t like CoD’2 shooting characteristics. Before CoD I played RTCW in CAL for many seasons and its a game like Counterstrike where you need to burst fire to reduce bullet spread as well as control recoil for accurate shooting. With CoD1 if you didn’t burst fire your bullet spread would be huge and many bullets would miss your target. With CoD2 this was severely nerfed and you really didn’t need to burst fire as much.

Let’s get down to business and look at the shooting characteristics for CoD1, CoD2, and CoD4. For these tests CoD1 and CoD2 used the MP44. For CoD4 I used an A4 with stopping power and deep impact for perks and a grenade launcher ie no accuracy perks like steadyaim and no red dot sights etc. The first set of tests used default server mode on CoD4 ie not hardcore mode.

3 Shot Burst No Ironsight

CoD1 - The bullets are spread in close groupings - usually the first bullet is right where you aimed it with the 2nd and 3rd being a little off.

CoD2 - The bullets are grouped very close together - the bullet spread is smaller than CoD1 or CoD4.

CoD4 - The bullets are spread apart pretty far like CoD1. You can’t tell from the pics but you can from the demo that the first 2-3 shots hit where you are aiming and the rest are spread pretty far. Most of my bursts were more like 5-6 shots since the damn thing fires so fast.
